Caterpillar hits high after profit jumps on stronger sales

Caterpillar Inc (NYSE:CAT, ETR:CAT1) shares rose almost 5% to a new high in pre-market trading after the construction equipment manufacturer unveiled solid full-year results.

Profit climbed by 5% to US$563 million over the year to December, the group said in an update, fuelled by a 41% jump in the figure to US$166 million for the fourth quarter.

This was bolstered by “more favourable” higher average financing rates, which offered a US$450 million boost to revenue over the full year.

Revenue itself climbed by 19% to US$3.25 billion, with sales said to have hit a record high on the back of stronger volumes and price increases.

"We are very pleased with the strong performance of our business and health of our global portfolio during 2023,” Caterpillar financial president Dave Walton said.

"The global Cat Financial team remains committed to executing our strategy and providing financial services solutions to Caterpillar customers and dealers worldwide.”

Shares jumped 4.73% in pre-market trading.
