Tech fever returned with a bang on Friday as Facebook owner Meta and Amazon wowed investors with stellar earnings updates.
London's FTSE 100 was up 24 in early dealings, though Wall Street grabbed the attention with Dow Jones up 1.0% and the S&P 500 and Nasdaq by 1.3%.
Meta leapt 15.6% after unveiling a $50 billion share buyback, its first-ever dividend and better-than-expected results. Amazon jumped 7.1% after revenue and earnings topped Street expectations.
Apple was the exception slipping 2.9% after sales in China dropped 13%.
In London, water utilities Severn Trent and United Utilities did well on the news they will be allowed inflation-busting price hikes to help stop them dumping sewage everywhere.
Wizz Air is also flying high after reporting decent traffic numbers despite the disruption caused by halting flights to some destinations in the Middle East. Passengers in January rose by 14% though booked seats or the load factor dropped.
