Destiny Pharma's latest dataset 'highly encouraging', says broker

Destiny Pharma’s latest update on the dermal formulation of anti-infective XF-73 provided highly encouraging data, says house broker Shore Capital.

The broker adds that while Destiny's focus has been on preparing the nasal formulation of XF-73 for Phase 3 evaluation as a potential best-in-class candidate for the prevention of post-surgical infections caused by Staphylococcus aureus (including MRSA), this new data is a timely reminder that XF-73 is also relevant to other unmet needs in the infectious disease field.

“In particular, the company has highlighted infections in patients with diabetic foot ulcers and severe burns as indications, which are desperately in need of new, more effective treatments.

Safety studies on broken skin wounds in the US showed that XF-73 did not negatively impact healing and that systemic exposure was negligible.

Destiny said it had also agreed with US partner Sebela Pharma a change to the contract development and manufacturing organisation (CDMO) as it seeks to improve future commercial supply as well as support the move from a liquid to a more suitable solid dose formulation.

“Given that the solid dose formulation was highlighted by market research conducted by Destiny Pharma as the preferred formulation we expect that this change should further improve the commercial proposition. “

As a result, material for clinical trial work undertaken by Sebela will be supplied in the second half of 2024.
