Rare earths & specialist minerals

Ionic Rare Earths Ltd delivers strong clay-hosted REE hits from infill drilling at Makuutu

Ionic Rare Earths Ltd (ASX:IXR, OTC:IXRRF) has returned clay-hosted rare earth intersections in all 20 infill core drill holes from its phase 5 resource infill and extension drilling at the Makuutu Heavy Rare Earths Project in Uganda.

Standout assays include:

  • 5.3 metres at 1,044 ppm TREO from 2.7 metres;
  • 17.1 metres at 1,003 ppm TREO from 4.8 metres;
  • 16.2 metres at 713 ppm TREO from 4.0 metres;
  • 11.0 metres at 691 ppm TREO from 4.0 metres; and
  • 14.6 metres at 684 ppm TREO from 6.1 metres.

Makuutu’s basket contains 71% magnet and heavy rare earths content and is one of the most advanced heavy rare earth projects globally available as a source for new supply chains emerging across Europe, the US, and Asia.

Drill program

Assay results for 76 holes of the 128-hole Phase 5 resource infill and extension drilling program completed on Retention Licence (RL) 00007 have now been received.

The program is intended to increase resource estimation confidence from inferred to indicated status in resource Areas A and B and to test extensions of those areas to expand the mineral resource area.

Drilling was on a 200-metre spaced pattern with 11 of the drill holes being extensions to the MRE and 9 being MRE Area A infill holes.

Makuutu project drill status plan showing the location of infill and extension drilling results on licence RL00007, MRE Areas A and B.

The 11 extension holes were drilled up to 500 metres south and southwest of the boundary of MRE Area A, mostly within the Makuutu mineralised trend.

This extension drilling shows mineralisation continues beyond the MRE.

Forward plan

Material from the remaining 52 drill holes is at the laboratory in Perth being analysed.

Following the receipt of the results, an updated resource estimation will be completed.
