Thermo Fisher falls after results beat the Street, investors 'sell the news'

Shares in Thermo Fisher Scientific (NYSE:TMO) fell despite the lab equipment maker reporting higher revenue and profit than analysts expected.

Fourth-quarter revenue of $10.9 billion just beat Wall Street forecasts of $10.74 billion, per Zacks.

Earnings per share of $5.67 were slightly ahead of the $5.64 average estimate.

Thermo Fisher expects full-year earnings in the range of $20.95 to $22 per share, with revenue in the range of $42.1 billion to $43.3 billion.

The shares, which had risen strongly from the near four-year lows in October to above $569 earlier this week, fell 3.4% on Wednesday to $548.02.
