Big tech in focus in results-heavy week - OptionsDesk

OptionsDesk's Sebastian Blanco previews a busy week on the markets for US corporate earnings and interest-rate decisions.

With five of the "Magnificent Seven" reporting quarterly earnings this week, Blanco highlighted the shift from CPU to GPU chip makers, driven by AI industry demands, noting AMD and Nvidia's emerging leadership. He pointed out Intel's significant revenue forecast miss and Tesla's earnings shortfall last week led to substantial market value losses for both.

Microsoft's recent overtaking of Apple as the world's most valuable company was a significant focus. Blanco attributed Microsoft's success to its dominance in the AI sector, contrasting with Apple's challenges, including softer demand in China and a need to detail its AI strategy. He suggested that Apple's earnings, due on Thursday, would be crucial, especially considering Microsoft's stock surge and Apple's relatively flat performance.

Blanco also shared trading insights, emphasizing the potential of a 'strangle' strategy and the benefits of diversified tech-focused exchange-traded funds (ETFs) in portfolios. He recommended considering ETFs that cover the broader tech sector or those focused on major tech firms, citing the shift towards GPU-focused chipmakers.
