Apple’s long-awaited electric car will now not appear until at least 2028, after being delayed for another two years, according to unconfirmed reports
Called Project Titan, Apple’s electric car has been under development since 2014 but has yet even to produce a prototype.
Self-driving ambitions have also been scaled back according to the Bloomberg report, with the car now only expected to have capabilities similar to Tesla’s Autopilot technology, which means driver engagement is necessary.
Originally, Apple had hoped to launch an almost autonomous car, where the driver only takes over in an emergency.
Ther was talk that the iPhone maker wanted to do away with the steering wheel and pedals, but now the report says it is even considering joining forces with a European car maker.
Apple’s hands-free software Carplay, which links with an iPhone, is already installed in many high-end models.
Broker and Apple watcher Wedbush said: “Right now AI and new consumer hardware devices are at the top of the priority list and not the Apple Car.”
