Fund management house Baillie Gifford, which manages Scottish Mortgage Investment Trust PLC (LSE:SMT) among others, is set to make dozens of job cuts and close some funds.
As part of an ongoing cost review, media reports said the Edinburgh-based firm plans to close four bond funds and axe roles in all departments from what is currently a 2,000-strong workforce.
The report, which was first published by Bloomberg, comes on the same day that Abrdn PLC (LSE:ABDN) confirmed it is cutting 500 jobs as part of a transformation programme, or 10% of its workforce.
Abrdn, which owns the Interactive Investor platform, said the moves were designed to cut costs by £150 million per year against the background of market conditions that have "remained challenging", with its investments arm facing structural headwinds.
A Baillie Gifford spokesperson said: "Following a review of our fixed income strategies and funds, we have decided to focus on supporting and growing our fixed income business exclusively in the UK market. We have taken the decision to close four funds where only a small number of clients are invested.
"As part of our regular business planning, we consider how to reduce our expenditure. However, our partnership structure ensures we can continue to invest in growing areas of the business while pursuing excellent long-term returns for our clients."
