Boeing to face FAA again after 747 engine malfunction

Shares in Boeing edged lower again after another plane built by the Virgina-based business hit mechanical problems.

Boeing has been under a cloud for the past two weeks after a cabin door panel blew out of one of its new range of 737 Max 9s, prompting a new grounding for the jet.

This latest incident occurred in an #Atlas Air Boeing 747-8 cargo plane, which made an emergency landing at Miami International Airport (MIA) on Thursday night following an engine malfunction.

The incident occurred shortly after take-off, with unverified social media videos showing flames from the aircraft's left wing.

No injuries were reported among the five-strong crew, per airport confirmation to Reuters though the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) said it would investigate.

The aircraft, equipped with four General Electric GEnx engines, is eight years old, according to Flightradar24 data.

Boeing halted production of 747s in 2020 with Atlas Air taking the last commercial plane built.

Shares in Boeing eased 0,6% to US$210.19 having shed 17% of their value year to date.
