Ban on Apple watches with blood oxygen sensors revived

Apple Inc (NASDAQ:AAPL, ETR:APC) will again be unable to sell Apple Watch models with blood oxygen sensors starting Thursday following a federal circuit court order.

The US Court of Appeals order lifted an injunction that had prevented a US International Trade Commission ban on the watches from going into effect while Apple’s appeal is pending. The court did not rule on the appeal itself.

The ITC placed the ban on the Apple products towards the end of 2023 after Masimo, the medical technology company, claimed the watches infringed on two of its patents.

Essentially, Masimo alleges that Apple poached its employees and stole its pulse oximeter technology, later adding it to the Apple Watch.

Earlier this week, Apple removed the pulse oximeter feature on its Apple Watch Series 9 and Ultra 2 smartwatches to avoid the ban.
