A new round of train strikes and an overtime ban will start at the end of January, drivers’ union Aslef announced today after a continued deadlock in its long-running pay dispute.
Strike action will take place on single days at each of the sixteen rail operators between Tuesday, January 30 and Monday, February 5 while there will be no overtime working for nine days from January 29.
Mick Whelan, Aslef general secretary, said: “We have given the government every opportunity to come to the table but it is now a year since we had any contact from the Department for Transport. It’s clear they do not want to resolve this dispute.”
Operators body the Rail Delivery Group called on Aslef to find a way to resolve the dispute and that the strikes were “hard to justify”
Operators are now obliged to run a minimum 40% service under new legislation introduced by the government.
