Surgical endoscopy specialist Creo Medical Group PLC said its Speedboat UltraSlim technology was used for the first time in Latin America, with 12 procedures carried out over three days by a specialist team at the Ecuadorian Institute of Digestive Diseases (IECED).
Creo said the Speedboat UltraSlim device was used by doctors Carlos Robles Medranda, Michel Kahaleh and Eduardo Albeniz, assisted by the company's clinical team.
Together, they performed the first F-POEM, or endoscopic fundoplication peroral endoscopic myotomy procedure using Speedboat.
F-POEM is a minimally invasive technique designed to treat oesophageal motility disorders in patients susceptible to gastroesophageal reflux.
"The procedures done at IECED have shown the full potential of the new Speedboat UltraSlim," said Creo chief executive Craig Gulliford.
"We were thrilled to witness the successful execution of the F-POEM procedure using solely the Speedboat device, a task that traditionally requires three separate instruments.
"This not only showcases the device's efficiency but also enhances the cost-effectiveness of the procedure, underscoring the economic advantages Creo's technology can deliver to our valued customers."
This achievement follows the limited market release of Speedboat UltraSlim in December.
Since its introduction, the device has been employed in various clinical applications. In the UK and the USA, it has been used to treat precancerous lesions in the colon, oesophagus and stomach.
