Delta Air Lines 4Q earnings beat seen as travel demand remains strong

Delta Air Lines (NYSE:DAL) Inc is expected to see a year-over-year lift in revenue, even as its earnings fall, when the airline releases its fourth-quarter financial results on January 12.

Wall Street anticipates 4Q revenue at Delta to rise 5.2% to $14.13 billion with a 22% decline in earnings to $1.16 per share, according to the Zacks consensus estimate.

Delta could see an upside surprise to its bottom line, however, as the airline previously noted it expects solid travel demand in the last three months of the year.

During 3Q, Delta posted better-than-expected earnings per share as its net income for the period surged nearly 60% on strong international travel bookings.

Meanwhile, the company’s adjusted revenue for the quarter of nearly $14.6 billion was in line with analysts’ expectations.

Shares of Delta Air Lines (NYSE:DAL) rose 2.4% to $41.53 in late-afternoon trading on Monday.
