Boeing supplier Spirit AeroSystems shares drop after mid-air blowout on Max 9 aircraft

Boeing Co (NYSE:BA, ETR:BCO) parts-supplier Spirit AeroSystems shares took a big hit on Monday morning after a dramatic blowout in mid-air on an Alaska Airlines flight on Friday.

Shares of Spirit AeroSystems, which manufactured and installed the fuselage part on the Max 9 aircraft affected, were down as much as 20% in premarket trading.

In a statement released Monday morning, Spirit AeroSystems said it was “grateful” the Alaska Airlines crew was able to land the plane safely.

“At Spirit AeroSystems, our primary focus is the quality and product integrity of the aircraft structures we deliver,” the company said.

“Spirit is a committed partner with Boeing on the 737 program, and we continue to work together with them on this matter.”

The US Federal Aviation Administration has ordered a temporary grounding of some narrowbody Max 9 jets.

Boeing shares had fallen nearly 7% as of 8:30am ET.
