Amazon prepping investment in Scottish offshore wind - report

Amazon.com Inc (NASDAQ:AMZN, ETR:AMZ) is reportedly poised to announce a major investment in offshore wind as part of a bid to power all of its UK operations with renewable energy from next year.

According to the Mail on Sunday, Amazon is to unveil the deal later this month, which will relate to the Moray West wind farm off the north-east coast of Scotland.

This will see the retail giant source energy from the site through a power purchase agreement, reports said.

Moray West is currently under construction and is anticipated to begin operations later this year.

Spanish energy giant EDPR and French rival Engie share ownership of the site through a joint venture, with Moray West ultimately set for a capacity of 900 megawatts.

Amazon will purchase 473 megawatts of this through the deal, reports added, equalling the power needed for around 175,000 homes.
