Shares of N4 Pharma PLC (AIM:N4P) advanced 9% in early trading following the announcement of significant advancements in its research on Nuvec, a delivery system for cancer treatments, gene therapy and vaccines.
N4 Pharma, working with Brunel University, found that when its discovery Nuvec is combined with a specific virus used in gene therapy (Adeno-Associated virus 8, or AAV8), it works 2.5 times better than the virus alone in laboratory tests.
This "transduction efficacy" refers to how effectively the virus can enter cells and deliver genetic material – in this case, a gene that creates a fluorescent green protein.
This is important because AAV8 is already being used in developing new medical treatments. So, for investors interested in healthcare, this suggests that N4 Pharma's Nuvec could be a valuable tool in enhancing gene therapy, potentially leading to more effective treatments.
The stock, up 77% in the past four trading days, was up 0.12p at 1.42p.
