Samsung teases AI capabilities of upcoming S24 smartphones

Samsung Electronics (KRX:005930) has promised that its soon-to-be-released Samsung Galaxy S24 range of mobile phones will feature artificial intelligence (AI)-powered features in a teaser video promoting the devices.

The consumer electronics company confirmed that its latest Galaxy smartphones will be unveiled on January 17 at 10am Pacific Time/1pm Eastern Time after details about the devices were leaked online.

But analysts at Wedbush highlighted that there remained questions over what edge AI means for end device builds, such as Samsung’s S24 line.

“We still don't have a great answer to this question with suggestions having ranged from memory requirements consistently at the high end of current typical configurations to levels roughly double that amount,” they wrote in a note to clients.

“We would note though that in our conversations, memory companies seem more enthusiastic around data center opportunities, versus shifts in edge configurations, implying to us that any technology shifts might be more impactful post-2024.”

Shares of Korean-listed Samsung fell 3.3% on Wednesday to 77,000 South Korean won.
