The O2 arena celebrated a record-breaking year of trade in 2023 as artists like Elton John and Madonna drew in punters, while several brands upsizing their stores caused shoppers to flock to the venue.
The Entertainment District and Outlet Shopping at The O2 covers operations at the venue and is owned by Waterfront Limited Partnership, a joint venture between AEG and Crosstree Real Estate Partners.
During 2023, the iconic landmark welcomed over 8.9 million visitors, marking a 17% increase from 2022.
Sales surged by 31% year-on-year, with outlet shopping up by 25% and the entertainment district ahead by 34%.
2.5 million tickets were sold over the 216 events that took place in 2023, with artists like Peter Kay, Madonna, Elton John and Shaina Twain all putting on shows.
18 brand stores operate at the venue including new units for Under Armour, French Connection and Carvela.
Food and Beverage companies such as Wetherspoons and Chipotle also opened sites.
Calvin Klein, Tommy Hilfiger and Levi’s all upsized their stores during the year.
This helped pave the way for a 27% year-on-year spike in trading during Black Friday, a record-breaking Christmas period and a 63% jump in sales in the Easter half term when compared to 2019.
The entertainment district also exceeded expectations, reporting a 54% uplift in sales during the Easter half-term vs 2019 and a 28% sales increase in December compared to the previous year.
Janine Constantin-Russell, Managing Director at the Entertainment District and Outlet Shopping at The O2 said: “As we look ahead to 2024, we remain committed to contributing to London’s wider retail, leisure and entertainment scene; evolving, diversifying and pushing the boundaries of what is possible.”
