Baidu.com's (NASDAQ:BIDU) artificial intelligence chatbot Ernie Bot has reached 100 million users, the Chinese company’s chief technology officer said Thursday.
Ernie Bot was released to the public in August after a five-month limited access period. OpenAI's ChatGPT, which Ernie and countless other AI bots are chasing, debuted in late 2022.
A ranking of AI chatbots by Superglue on Thursday gave Ernie Bot a score of 79.02, which tops all other Chinese AI chatbots but trails ChatGPT by more than 10 points.
However, Baidu claimed in October that its latest iteration, Ernie Bot 4.0, is “not inferior in any aspect to GPT-4,” according to CEO Robin Li.
Ernie Bot 4.0 is not yet available to the public.
