Oil & Gas

Interview with Europa Oil & Gas CEO William Holland on its acquisition and strategic vision

Europa Oil & Gas (Holdings) PLC CEO William Holland recently spoke with Thomas Warner about the company's strategic acquisition of a 42.9% interest in Antler Global, giving them a substantial stake in the EG-08 gas asset offshore Equatorial Guinea.

Holland outlined the rationale behind this decision, emphasising its geological and geographical appeal and the strong connections in the region that make this venture particularly promising.

He delved into the details of the asset, adjacent to a Chevron-operated gas field, and its prospects for exploration success. challenges in the energy sector, and its plans for future growth and exploration.

Thomas Warner (TW): William, with Europa Oil & Gas's recent acquisition of a significant interest in Antler Global, and thereby a stake in the EG-08 gas asset, can you elaborate on the strategic value of this venture?

William Holland (WH): Certainly, Thomas. This acquisition marks a proactive and strategic move for Europa Oil & Gas. We now hold a 42.9% interest in Antler Global, which owns an 80% stake in the EG-08 gas asset offshore Equatorial Guinea. We chose this venture for its geological and geographical familiarity, strong in-country connections, and compelling risk-reward balance. The asset, adjacent to a Chevron-operated gas field, includes three prospects with a total of 1.4 trillion cubic feet of gas. The unique seismic response here increases our confidence in these prospects, suggesting over a 90% chance of economic discovery.

TW: Considering the project's scale, how do you plan to approach the drilling process and the required investment?

WH: We're looking at an estimated investment of $40-50 million to test all three prospects. Our strategy involves farming out the drilling aspect, which we believe will be attractive to major oil companies. The high-quality data, clear seismic responses, and proximity to existing infrastructure make this an enticing opportunity for larger players in the industry. We aim to leverage our relationships to facilitate this farming out process effectively.

TW: Can you discuss how this acquisition aligns with Europa's broader vision, especially considering your ongoing projects in the UK and Ireland?

WH: This acquisition fits perfectly with our broader vision of strategic growth and value creation. While we focus on farming out the operational aspect of the EG-08 asset, we also plan to explore deeper levels within the license, which hold further potential. Our ongoing projects in the UK and Ireland remain a priority, and we're gearing up for a busy period with plenty of activity and value drivers across our portfolio.

TW: What do you believe gave Europa Oil & Gas an edge in acquiring this asset, especially in a field where majors like Chevron are also present?

WH: Our success in securing this deal primarily boils down to relationships. Our team's extensive experience and deep connections within the industry played a crucial role. We strategically leveraged our network to identify and capitalize on this opportunity, avoiding direct competition and focusing on unique value propositions.
