Cellular Goods PLC (LSE:CBX), the skincare products and sustainability group, said it is cautiously optimistic about its prospects, as the benefits from its cost-cutting and revenue growth initiatives continue to kick in.
Despite facing industry headwinds, the company, which has developed a range of lab-made cannabinoid products, reported a 132% year-on-year increase in sales, largely driven by its successful refocusing on marketing strategies and the expansion of its 'Look Better' range.
In a challenging economic climate, it has effectively navigated the premium goods sector's difficulties by implementing a 50% reduction in its overall cost base. This action has bolstered the company's performance in its wellness division, demonstrating resilience and adaptability.
The company's expansion into new markets, including the US, France and Germany, along with strategic e-commerce partnerships with Sephora UK and Debenhams, has further strengthened its market position.
"Despite the continued challenging market conditions and industry headwinds, we saw positive business growth over the financial year, driven by our refocused marketing strategy and geographic and product line expansion of the 'Look Better' skincare range," said interim CEO Darcy Taylor.
"The wider economic and sector challenges led us to significantly reduce our marketing spend and focus on further optimising our high-quality brand partnerships to translate into revenues and product sales within the premium beauty segment."
It reported a loss of £3.3 million for the 12 months ended 31 August, primarily due to one-time restructuring costs, while it exited the year with £1.77 million on the balance sheet.
Cellular said it remained focused on its long-term growth trajectory, underpinned by its recent acquisition of King Tide Carbon and ongoing product and market expansion. It bought King Tide in May, which took the group into carbon removal.
"The acquisition of King Tide Carbon and move into the carbon removal industry was complementary to our strategic direction, deepening our sustainability vision and philosophy," said Taylor.
