Voyageur Pharmaceuticals CEO Brent Willis joined Steve Darling from Proactive to discuss a significant development within the company. Voyageur Pharmaceuticals, in partnership with Rain Cage Carbon Inc., has achieved a major milestone in the field of medical imaging. Rain Cage Carbon Inc. has successfully completed Stage 1 testing of a new molecule known as metallofullerene, with profound implications for the radiology market. Metallofullerene, based on its unique molecular structure, holds the potential to be a safer alternative to existing drugs in the medical imaging industry.
Willis emphasized that this breakthrough is a significant step forward, as Metallofullerene has demonstrated its superiority as an MRI contrast agent compared to currently available options. What sets Voyageur apart is its exclusive access to fullerene and vanadium, granted by its drug development agreement with Rain Cage. This partnership not only eliminates sourcing costs but also entails a revenue-sharing arrangement between Voyageur and Rain Cage for future drug sales. Additionally, Voyageur holds the rights for carbon imaging drug development and sales in North America.
One intriguing aspect of this development is that the carbon and other minerals created through Rain Cage's technology are by-products of carbon capture from fossil fuel emissions. This positions Voyageur and Rain Cage to establish a versatile pipeline of new carbon-based drugs for diagnostic imaging. The pipeline may include combinations of iodine with fullerene and theranostic radiology drugs. Looking ahead, Voyageur Pharmaceuticals plans to initiate further testing on Vanadium for factors such as relaxivity and safety. These endeavors will commence upon securing financing, with the research and pre-clinical activities set to kick off in 2024. This marks an exciting phase for Voyageur as they continue to advance their presence in the field of medical imaging and drug development.
