Objectors to the development of the Sizewell nuclear power plant in Suffolk have lost the latest round in their battle after an appeal court upheld a previous decision to allow construction to go ahead.
Together Against Sizewell C, a protest group formed after the development was given the go-ahead last year, said it was “dismayed” by the appeal judges' ruling.
A spokesman for the group now called on the Office of Nuclear Regulation and the Environment Agency to step in and block the development.
Together Against Sizewell C’s earlier action had related to the impact on the water supply and environment around the Suffolk plant.
In the ruling today, the three judges said the Secretary of State was entitled in this case to regard the project as the power station, and that the provision of a permanent water supply was not part of that project but formed a different and separate project.
A Department for Energy Security and Net Zero spokeswoman said: “We are pleased with the Court of Appeal’s judgment and are carefully considering the ruling.”
French group EDF is to build and operate the new reactor.
