Shares in N4 Pharma PLC (AIM:N4P) shot up over 12% on Monday morning after the firm announced the successful oral administration of its Nuvec particle with a DNA plasmid.
Contents of the capsule were taken up by the intestinal cells during the test, N4 said, with the successful introduction of the ovalbumin protein being carried.
"This continued success shows that Nuvec has the potential to be successfully used as an oral delivery system with many potential applications,” boss Nigel Theobald said.
This could include “as a vaccine, a product for irritable bowel disease or to treat colonic cancer”.
Adding the early success of the particle proved “a potentially massive opportunity”, Theobald said further updates would come in the new year, as N4 Pharma makes developing Nuvec as an oral delivery technology a “key priority”.
Shares climbed 12.3% to 0.87p.
