Eden Research PLC (AIM:EDEN, OTCQB:EDNSF) has announced the temporary approval of Ecovelex in Italy for the 2024 growing season, allowing it to be used as a bird-repellent seed treatment in corn.
This development marks a significant milestone in the agricultural sector, as Ecovelex presents a sustainable alternative to traditional chemicals that are not approved in the EU and UK.
Developed jointly by Corteva Agriscience and Eden, an AIM-listed company known for its sustainable crop protection solutions, Ecovelex is engineered to combat crop damage caused by birds, a prevalent issue in maize cultivation and other crops.

Unlike conventional repellents, the product functions by emitting an unpleasant taste or odour, effectively deterring birds without harming them. This approach ensures the seeds remain intact, while birds are encouraged to seek alternative food sources.
The innovation behind Ecovelex lies in its formulation, which leverages Eden's plant-derived chemistry, a method registered in the EU, US, and other regions.
A key component of this formulation is Eden's proprietary Sustaine microencapsulation system, which is instrumental in making Ecovelex an eco-friendly option in seed treatment.
This product aligns with the growing trend towards sustainable agriculture, meeting both consumer expectations and regulatory demands for environmentally conscious farming practices.
