Creo Medical Group PLC (AIM:CREO) hailed the first use in the US of the latest model of its surgical endoscopy device, the Speedboat UltraSlim, as part of a limited release before a full launch next year.
Following the green light from the US regulator last month and the first ever surgical use of the device in the UK earlier this week, the company told investors in a statement that the device has been used in multiple clinical applications in recent weeks.
These included submucosal dissection in the colon for a pre-cancerous lesion, a pre-cancerous resection in the oesophagus, and procedures to treat oesophageal swallowing disorders and gastroparesis.
With the ability to allow controlled cutting and coagulation, as well as deliver fluid, Creo noted that this third-generation Speedboat tool has broad application in the gastro-intestinal tract due to its smaller size and compatibility with a wide range of colonoscopes and gastroscopes.
"Following the completion of the design transfer to manufacturing last week, the whole team has worked tirelessly to get Speedboat UltraSlim into the hands of clinicians,” said chief executive Craig Gulliford.
“Having first use in the UK and the USA in a single week, not only validates the utility of our cutting edge technology, but succinctly illustrates the cohesion across our team and joint intention to deliver on our objectives.”
He said there has been significant demand for the product from existing and potential Speedboat users, and the company will continue early market release activities ahead of a full market launch in early 2024.
