Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC) said on Thursday that dozens of computer makers have adopted its new artificial intelligence (AI) chip, including Dell Inc. (NASDAQ:DELL), Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT), and Lenovo.
The Intel Core Ultra mobile processor, unveiled at the company’s AI Everywhere event in New York, is available in new laptops starting Thursday.
It plans to bring the Intel Core Ultra to 230 designs from PC makers worldwide over the next year.
The new chips feature the company’s first client neural processing unit which is dedicated to handling AI tasks.
Intel said AI-enhanced applications will be more efficient on Intel Core Ultra. For example, content creators using Adobe Premier Pro on computers with the chip will see a 40% better performance, the company said.
“Intel is developing the technologies and solutions that empower customers to seamlessly integrate and effectively run AI in all their applications — in the cloud and, increasingly, locally at the PC and edge, where data is generated and used,” Intel CEO Pat Gelsinger said in a statement.
“Our AI portfolio gets even stronger with today’s launch of Intel Core Ultra ushering in the age of the AI PC and AI-accelerated 5th Gen Xeon for the enterprise.”
Shares of Intel traded higher on the news, up 2.8% at US$45.83 in the early afternoon on Thursday.
