MusicMagpie PLC, the second-hand mobile phone, CD, book and video games seller, said Black Friday trading this year was a record and helped offset a weak first half of the year.
Full-year revenue is now expected to be £136.6 million (2022: £143.3 million), including the bumper Black Friday (24 November) takings.
Consumer technology revenues rose by 7.5% in the second half to make £95.4 million (2022: £96.6 million) for the year overall.
Active rental subscribers grew by 21% in the year reaching 37,100 as of 30 November 2023 with total rental revenue for the period hitting £8.3 million, up 57% (2022: £5.3 million).
Gross margin also rose to 27.7% (2022: 26.2%) while underlying profits [EBITDA] for the year to end-November 2023 were 15.4% ahead at £7.5 million (2022: £6.5 million), said the statement.
Musicmagpie was at the centre of bid speculation from BT and fund Aurelius last month, though neither group made an offer.
Steve Oliver, chief executive, said: "We are pleased with the performance of the group in the second half of the year, and are delighted that our focus on profits and cash has delivered significant EBITDA growth.
“Our strategy of proactively managing the number of active rental subscribers has also helped in this regard and will support our short-term objectives on profits and cash into 2024, bolstered by an enhanced Buy Now Pay Later offering.“
