Canadian life sciences company Ondine Biomedical Inc (AIM:OBI, OTC:OBIMF) has announced that its successful C$4.91 million (£2.9 million) fundraising will be used to accelerate the commercialisation of its innovative nasal photodisinfection technology.
Ondine’s cutting-edge technology, which targets the prevention of healthcare-associated infections (HAIs), offers a promising alternative to topical antibiotics and is vital in the fight against antimicrobial resistance.
2023 marks a milestone for Ondine, as it has more than doubled the number of hospitals implementing its Steriwave technology. This expansion is not just limited to Canada; the company is actively engaging with over 75 hospitals across the UK, Mexico, Spain and Canada.
The rise in Steriwave deployments reflects a growing global focus on preventing HAIs post-surgery and combating the challenge of antimicrobial resistance.
Steriwave offers a quick, five-minute nasal decolonization procedure that has been seamlessly integrated into preoperative protocols, receiving positive feedback for its simplicity and comfort.
Ondine chief executive Carolyn Cross, CEO of Ondine, highlighted the company's increased efficiency in commercial activities, stating: “We have put great efforts into improving our commercial activity sales process, which has increased the speed of the average sales cycle from contact to deployment by 50%.
“We have appointed distributors in the UK, Spain and Mexico and are gaining real momentum.
“What is particularly encouraging is that many hospitals are recommending Steriwave to other hospitals. We believe this momentum will continue to increase, and commercial sales will become more significant in 2024."
Ondine continues to advance its clinical footprint, preparing for a Phase-three trial in collaboration with HCA, the largest hospital group in the United States.
This trial is a critical step towards US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approval, adding to the technology's existing approvals in Canada, the UK, the EU and Mexico.
