Cathie Wood ups AI bets with Microsoft, Meta buys

What other AI stocks does the famed tech investor own?

Cathie Wood’s tech investment vehicle Ark Invest recently acquired shares in Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) for the first time in approximately nine months in a push for greater exposure to the burgeoning artificial intelligence sector.

Nearly 9,000 Microsft shares were added to Ark’s Next Generation Internet ETF (ARKW) on Monday at an estimated purchase of $3 million.

Wood’s previous Microsoft purchase was on 20 March, when 41,000 shares were added to the ARKW fund. At the time, the purchase was valued at $11.2 million.

Barring a small disposal in June, no further Microsoft shares have moved in or out of Ark Invest since.

As of today, Ark Invest only holds a small amount of Microsoft stock valued at less than $21 million, making it the firm’s 71st-largest holding.

But Wood’s renewed interest in Microsoft is logical given her bullishness on the AI industry.

What other AI-adjacent stock does Wood own?

Meta: Alongside Microsoft, Wood recently upped her stake in Meta Platforms Inc (NASDAQ:FB) (formerly Facebook).

Ark Invest holds over 263,000 Meta share across its various ETF, valued at over $85.5 million at current market prices.

Meta's shares comprise 0.8% of Arm Invest’s entire portfolio.

Tesla: Is Tesla Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) an AI stock? Debatable, but according to Wood, it’s “the biggest AI play out there, the biggest beneficiary”, telling Fortune in June that Elon Musk’s electric vehicle titan is the “convergence” of three out of five AI principles.

“Autonomous vehicles are robots. Autonomous taxi platforms are what we’re talking about here. They will be electric, and they will be powered by artificial intelligence,” said said.

Tesla is Ark Invest’s fourth-largets holding, valued at around $630 million.

UiPath: UiPath Inc (NYSE:PATH) is perhaps the largest of Wood’s ‘pure-play’ AI investments. An AI-based business automation platform, it is the second-largest stock in Ark Invest’s portfolio (behind Coinbase) at over $1 billion.

Nvidia: Wood has cooled off on Nvidia Corporation (NASDAQ:NVDA) in recent months, despite her wider AI push. Currently comprising 0.46% of the portfolio, Ark Invest’s total Nvidia holdings are valued at around $65.4 million, making the Silicon Valley AI chipmaking giant Ark’s 38th-largest investment.

In May, Nvidia shares were around 1% of Ark’s total investments.

Though Nvidia has become synonymous with AI-based hardware, the corporation’s massive 250% year-to-date rally has likely prompted some profit-taking.
