Volta Metals Ltd (CSE:VLTA) has reported a successful conclusion to its inaugural drill program at the Falcon West Lithium Property in northwestern Ontario, Canada. The program, consisting of 11 boreholes and covering a 300 meters (m) by 500m area, revealed spodumene-bearing pegmatites in all drilled locations. Notably, multiple mineralized pegmatites were identified, and new spodumene-bearing pegmatite dykes were uncovered.
The thickness of the pegmatites ranged from 1.3m to 14.6m, and the mineralized system demonstrated continuity along both strike and depth, leaving ample room for expansion. This encouraging outcome reinforces the potential for substantial lithium mineralization within the roughly 13- square kilometer property.
"Our experienced team's success of discovering and drilling with 100% success in less than six months validates the significant mineralization potential of this project and Volta as a whole," Volta president and CEO Kerem Usenmez commented in a statement.
The company's technical advisor, Dr Fred Breaks, highlighted the early indications of a stacked spodumene pegmatite system at Far West North, emphasizing the importance of further exploration to verify these findings.
"The lithochemistry and structural data accrued from this early phase of drilling will greatly aid in the continuing development of a lithium pegmatite exploration model," Breaks said.
Volta said the success of the drilling program not only confirms the spodumene mineralization observed on the surface but also provides valuable insights for future exploration. The initial drilling was designed to test the five spodumene-bearing pegmatites at depth, which were discovered within a small section of the property.
All the mineralized core samples have been sent to Activation Laboratories Ltd in Thunder Bay, Ontario, with results expected in early 2024.
The company plans to leverage the information obtained from this drilling campaign to refine its understanding of the structural orientations of the pegmatites and enhance drill-hole design for upcoming exploration efforts. The next phase of exploration, including drilling, will be formulated based on the laboratory assay results, setting the stage for continued advancements in unlocking the lithium potential of Falcon West.
