Mistral AI on Monday closed a US$415 million (€385 million) financing round which sources say values the Paris, France-based OpenAI rival at €2 billion.
The financing round was led by investors such as Andreessen-Horowitz and LightSpeed Ventures, with Nvidia, Salesforce, and BNP Paribas among other participating in the fundraising.
The artificial intelligence (AI) company was founded seven months ago by former Google Deepmind and Meta Platforms employees as a European competitor to OpenAI.
It specializes in open-source language models that can be used in chatbots, search engines, and other AI products.
“Since the creation of Mistral AI in May, we have been pursuing a clear trajectory: that of creating a European champion with a global vocation in generative artificial intelligence, based on an open, responsible and decentralized approach to technology,” Mistral AI CEO Arthur Mensch commented.
