World’s richest families became $1.5T wealthier in 2023: report

Collective wealth of the world’s wealthiest families increased by $1.5 trillion in 2023, according to a new report by Bloomberg.

Topping the list was the Al Nahyans family, rulers of the oil-rich Abu Dhabi emirate, with a collective $305 billion fortune.

Al Nahyans surpassed the Walton family, descendants of the founder of Walmart who held the top spot for the past five years, by $45 billion.

The Al Nahyans also own UK soccer club Manchester City.

In third place was the sixth-generation family that founded the luxury brand Hermès, who added $56 billion in wealth.

Also making the list were the Al Thanis, Qatar’s royal family, as well as families such as Mars, Wertheimer, Koch, and Reuters.

Rounding out the top 10 was Canada’s Thomson family with $71.1 billion.

Meanwhile, the world's two richest men – Tesla CEO Elon Musk and Amazon founder Jeff Bezos – added over $150 billion worth of wealth alone this year.
