Skillsoft shares slump on tepid 4Q outlook

Skillsoft shares slid in extended trading Tuesday after the company posted mixed third-quarter results and underwhelming guidance.

The education software company posted revenue of $139 million, down 0.3% year over year and below Street expectations of $144.3 million. Its adjusted loss was $2.92 per share, narrower than the expected $3.41 per share.

While the company was closer to profitability than expected, CFO Richard Walker expressed a mixed sentiment when looking ahead to the current quarter.

“Our performance in the third quarter reflected our commitment to delivering profitable growth,” Walker said in a statement. “...We believe our continuous focus on strong profitability will allow us to deliver adjusted EBITDA at the top of the outlook.”

“As we take a more measured view of our instructor-led training segment for the remainder of the year, we now expect to deliver bookings and revenue approximately at the bottom of our full-year outlook,” he added.

Shares of Skillsoft declined 4.3% Tuesday and lost another 1.8% after the bell.
