Foxconn, Pegatron suspend iPhone production in Chennai as cyclone approaches

Foxconn and Pegatron have paused production of Apple Inc (NASDAQ:AAPL) iPhones at their factories in Chennai in southern India due to heavy rains caused by Cyclone Michaung, Reuters reported Monday.

Cyclone Michaung formed over the Bay of Bengal and is expected to make landfall in the state of Andhra Pradesh on Tuesday morning.

In Chennai, the capital of neighbouring state Tamil Nadu, heavy rain has resulted in the death of two people due to a wall collapse, power outages, and the suspension of operations at the airport.

Citing sources with knowledge of the matter, Reuters said Foxconn was yet to decide whether to resume production at its facility on Tuesday.

Apple declined to comment on the matter while Foxconn and Pegatron did not immediately respond to the publication’s requests for comment.
