Zumiez delivers 3Q expectations beat despite 'challenging macroeconomic backdrop'

Zumiez Inc. (NASDAQ:ZUMZ) shares rose nearly 2% in extended trading Thursday following a narrower-than-expected third-quarter loss.

The clothing retailer posted a loss of $0.12 per share, compared to Street expectations of $0.17 per share, on revenue of $216.3 million in the period, above forecasts of $213.4 million.

“Given the challenging macroeconomic backdrop, we are encouraged by the strength of newer brand introductions and fashion trends that we look to capitalize upon in the important holiday season,” CEO Rick Brooks said in a statement.

“While 2023 has certainly been difficult, the adjustments we’ve made to our merchandise assortment and our steadfast commitment to providing consumers with superior service and a highly differentiated shopping experience will continue to separate us from the competition and position Zumiez to recapture operating margin as our sales recover.”

For the current quarter, Zumiez guided for revenue between $275 million to $281 million.
