Florida voters show strong support for rec cannabis legalization

A recent poll conducted by the University of North Florida (UNF) reveals that over two-thirds of registered voters in Florida are in favor of the legalization of adult-use cannabis in the state.

The survey, which interviewed 716 residents representing diverse demographics and geographic locations, found that 67% would vote in favor of a proposed constitutional amendment allowing individuals aged 21 and older to purchase cannabis without a medical license.

Only 28% indicated they would oppose such a bill.

This marks the third survey by UNF on Floridians' stance on recreational cannabis, with previous polls in 2022 and 2023 showing support at 76% and 70%, respectively.

The proposed Adult Personal Use of Marijuana amendment, put forward by Smart & Safe Florida, awaits court approval for inclusion in the 2024 general election ballot.

Despite pushback from Governor Ron DeSantis and Attorney General Ashley Moody, the initiative may proceed based on the favorable response from voters.
