Sports Illustrated, one the best-known titles on the planet, has found itself at the centre of an artificial intelligence (AI) fakery storm.
An investigation by the tech publication Futurism revealed that the magazine featured pieces by apparently non-existent authors with AI-generated biographies and headshots.
For example, a supposed writer, 'Sora Tanaka', was presented as a fitness and nutrition expert, but was alleged to be fictitious.
Similarly, an article about volleyball by 'Drew Ortiz' was under scrutiny, as Ortiz seems not to exist.
The Arena Group, which owns Sports Illustrated, initially denied these allegations, stating the content was from AdVon Commerce, a third-party advertiser.
However, the group later severed ties with AdVon and removed its content, emphasising its disapproval of pseudonymous writing, according to the Guardian.
