BSF Enterprise PLC (LSE:BSFA), a listed biotech company that owns skin technology business 3D Bio-Tissues (3DBT), said on Friday that it has struck a proof-of-concept agreement with one of the world’s largest cosmetic companies.
3DBT is based in the UK and develops solutions for tissue regeneration and repair, as well as cultivated meat and leather production.
Its owner BSF, which is listed on the main market of the London Stock Exchange, said in a statement that the undisclosed cosmetic partner will test the suitability of 3DBT’s proprietary lipopeptide product, Etsyl, for use in its skin cream cosmetic solutions.
Etsyl is a bioactive ingredient that promotes cellular collagen production in human skin cells, with applications in skincare, wound healing and skin substitutes.
The company said 3DBT has also expanded its team to focus on securing more partnerships and sales for its proprietary serum-free cell growth agent, City-Mix.
It has hired two new staff members to the brand, including operational manager Adam Crosby, who the company said has a track record in delivering multi-million-pound projects, and a technical sales specialist.
City-Mix is an animal-free cell growth agent for culturing skin, muscle and fat cells for use in cultivated meat and leather production.
3DBT has also received a €612,000 grant from the European Institute of Innovation and Technology to upscale the production and sales of City-Mix, the company said.
3DBT’s chief executive, professor Che Connon, who has co-authored a book entitled Advances in Cultured Meat Technology that explores the potential of cultured meat production in solving food security, said: “We are delighted to be working with one of the world’s largest cosmetic companies, which highlights the potential of our Etsyl product and the diverse applications of our technology.
