Baselode Energy Corp (TSX-V:FIND, OTCQB:BSENF) recently reported that drilling at the ACKIO uranium prospect at its Hook project in Saskatchewan has confirmed Pod 7 as a second zone of near-surface uranium mineralization at the prospect.
The company’s CEO James Sykes joined Proactive’s Steve Darling to talk through the drill results.
Proactive: Tell me about the exploration program and what you saw?
Sykes: This part of the program extended Pod 7’s mineralization to the overburden contact. That’s basically as shallow as we can get in a hardrock environment. We had 0.7% uranium oxide concentrate (U3O8) over 2 metres right at that immediate contact which now makes Pod 7 the second uranium-bearing zone or pod with mineralization at that overburden contact.
Now for those who don’t understand, the overburden contact is as shallow as we can get to that shallow mineralization that’s 30 metres from the surface with unconsolidated sands. It’s not a mining scenario, it’s more of an earthmoving scenario of removing overburden.
It’s a unique situation to have mineralization occur immediately after that overburden material in two pods now. ACKIO has demonstrated that it’s a very cool and continuously growing system every step of the way.
Is overburden something you would use or just move it to get to what is underneath?
You move it to get to that shallow area that’s overburdened by what glaciers left behind. We are fortunate in Canada that glaciers came through and eroded everything, leaving piles of dirt, boulders, and other scatterings along the way on the glacially sourced surface.
That glacially scoured surface has got uranium mineralization to it. It’s very encouraging to find more.
How should people put these recent results into context?
We’ve still got more room to grow mineralization at the surface but we also have more mineralization to discover at depth as the system remains completely open. We’ve defined significant amounts of mineralization anywhere from zero to 200 metres below the surface but that whole depth potential remains open, on strike of where we’ve drilled remains open.
There’s still quite a bit of uranium mineralization that is out there within the whole ACKIO structural system. It’s this wonderful system that continues to grow. It’s the gift that keeps giving.
What’s to come before the end of the year?
We’ve still got two more news releases for five holes from exploration beyond these currently released drill holes. One of those drill holes had the highest levels of radioactivity that we had in the entire drill program, probably some of the highest that we’ve seen on the project to date, a very encouraging drill hole.
Then we’ve got six holes from the exploration side of things where we targeted a sub-parallel structural system called the Mirror target area and we’ll have results from those as they come in.
