Murchison Minerals Ltd (TSX-V:MUR, OTCQB:MURMF) has kicked off an extensive geophysical survey program at its Barbant-MacKenzie (BMK) copper-zinc-silver-lead-gold project in Saskatchewan.
The company’s VP of Exploration John Shmyr recently joined Proactive’s Steve Darling to talk through the program highlights.
Proactive: Can you introduce the BMK project?
Shmyr: The BMK project is a volcanic massive sulphide (VMS) project in central Saskatchewan. We’ve got a sizeable VMS deposit there. It’s high grade, with quite large tonnage and remains open.
About a year ago, we stepped back and went through the data again to make sure we weren’t missing anything, we contacted several subject matter experts, and we did some re-logging of core and one thing that jumped out at us is that our deposit is missing what’s called the copper stockworks, which is very typical for many large VMS deposits. We’re looking and keen to identify a target on the property because that could potentially add a significant amount to our resource.
We noticed a sizeable geophysical anomaly in an old airborne survey from 2017 and we identified that as our CST target. We wanted to get out there this fall and get a new survey overtop of that to help find that target in preparation for us to drill this winter.
What exploration work are you doing?
It’s a ground electromagnetic survey as well as some borehole electromagnetic surveys on adjacent holes.
What is the importance of this particular area of the project?
A good comparison is Foran Mining Corporation (TSX-V:FOM, OTCQX:FMCXF)'s Mcllvenna Bay deposit located just south of us. They have a very sizeable VMS deposit and they have a similar mass of sulphides to us, but the bulk of their resource is made up of copper stockworks.
We see a similar opportunity. If we’re successful in identifying our copper stockworks, it has huge opportunity to really grow the resource.
When you get the data back, will that decide if you are going to carry out drilling next year?
We’re pretty keen on drilling this target. This is just going to help refine it and pinpoint further that drilling this coming winter.
