Ian McDonough's interview sheds light on Blackbird PLC (AIM:BIRD, OTCQX:BBRDF)’s strategic direction with the development of Elevate.io. This innovative platform is set to revolutionize the content creation process, offering a user-friendly, collaborative, and adaptable solution that aligns with the growing needs of the creator economy. With a keen eye on market trends and user feedback, Blackbird is poised to make a substantial impact in a rapidly evolving digital landscape.
Thomas Warner (TW): We last spoke in September about your new product, which was then presented to investors. Can you update us on its progress?
Ian McDonough (IM): Certainly, Thomas. We're excited to announce that we're right on schedule with Elevate.io. We've recently entered the early access phase, allowing our first external users to interact with and provide feedback on the product. This has been a rapid development process, leveraging Blackbird's robust architecture to create an end-to-end solution for the creator economy. Although it's still early days, and software is always evolving, we're on track for a full launch in Q1 next year.
TW: What makes Elevate.io stand out in the market?
IM: Elevate.io's uniqueness stems from extensive research and feedback from over 300 individuals in the content creation field. Content creators today face challenges with complex software and cumbersome collaboration processes. Elevate.io addresses these issues with live multiplayer capabilities, browser-based access, and a plugin architecture, making the creative process more efficient and flexible. The platform’s design allows for the integration of AI and community-developed functionalities, making it a future-proof solution for content creators.
TW: Who are the primary targets for Elevate.io, and what's the scale of the opportunity?
IM: The creator economy, valued at about $250 billion by Goldman Sachs (NYSE:GS) and expected to double by 2027, is our playground. We're specifically targeting a segment within this, focusing on professional content creators and high-end YouTubers. This segment, currently valued at around $20 billion, is ripe for innovation and is projected to grow significantly. Our research indicates that these creators are ready for new software solutions, especially ones that offer more flexibility than the rigid tools currently dominating the market.
TW: How does Elevate.io enhance the collaboration process for creators?
IM: Collaboration is a key aspect where Elevate.io makes a significant difference. The traditional content creation process, often termed 'production hell,' involves multiple rounds of reviews and edits, which can be time-consuming and inefficient. Elevate.io's live multiplayer feature allows various stakeholders, like editors, producers, directors, and even stars of the content, to collaborate in real-time, streamlining decision-making and significantly reducing the time spent on revisions.
TW: Can you tell us about Blackbird's existing product and how it's evolving?
IM: Blackbird's current platform has already established a high pedigree, being used in major events like the Rugby World Cup and the Ryder Cup, and across global news organizations and TV networks. We are continually investing in this platform to enhance its user experience and ensure it aligns seamlessly with Elevate.io. This investment is part of our commitment to providing comprehensive, user-friendly solutions in content creation.
TW: Finally, what message would you like to leave with our viewers, especially potential investors?
IM: I want investors to understand the enormity of the opportunity before us. With products like Figma and Canva valued in the tens of billions, it's clear that there's a substantial market for innovative software in the creator economy. At Blackbird, we have the technology, the team, and a product that meets a real market need. The market potential for Elevate.io is immense, and we are well-positioned to capture a significant share of this burgeoning market.
