Holiday eCommerce sales seen rising sharply

eCommerce growth is expected to be healthy this holiday season and resume pre-pandemic trends by significantly outpacing offline retail growth despite inflationary pressures and macroeconomic uncertainty, according to analysts at Wedbush.

“Industry estimates suggest eCommerce sales are expected to rise at over twice the rate of total retail sales this holiday season,” the analysts wrote in a note to clients ahead of Cyber Week.

“This year, the gap between expected eCommerce growth and total retail growth is approximately 280 basis points wider than it was last holiday season.”

They noted that the average expected growth rate of total U.S. retail sales is 4.1% year-over-year, down from an estimated 6% for the same period in 2022.

On the other hand, eCommerce’s growth rate is expected to increase from 7.9% last year to 8.8% year-over-year.
