Palantir's £480m NHS patient data deal confirmed

Palantir Technologies Inc (NYSE:PLTR) has landed a five-year contract worth up to £480 million to help revamp the National Health Service's (NHS) patient data system.

The deal, announced by Health Secretary Victoria Atkins, involves Palantir partnering with Accenture (NYSE:ACN) to create a federated data platform for NHS England.

This platform aims to enhance medical data analysis, pattern detection, and resource allocation across hospitals.

The contract, potentially extendable by two years, supports NHS priorities such as elective care recovery and improving patient discharge processes.

Palantir, co-founded by Silicon Valley bigwig Peter Thiel, began its NHS involvement during the Covid pandemic.

With close commercial connections with the security and military in the US, there are, understandably, concerns over the tech giant's work with NHS patient data.
