Elon Musk's social media company, X (formerly known as Twitter), has reportedly filed a lawsuit against the left-leaning group Media Matters for America.
According to US coverage of the legal action, it accuses Media Matters of "manipulating" data to harm X, alleging that the group created misleading images showing advertisers' posts next to neo-nazi and white-nationalist content.
This follows Media Matters' report claiming that ads from companies such as Apple, Disney, IBM, and Comcast (NASDAQ:CMCSA) appeared alongside antisemitic posts on X.
The controversy intensified after Media Matters reported that ads were seen next to posts endorsing nazism, including Hitler quotes and Holocaust denial.
In response, several firms paused their advertising on X. Musk threatened a "thermonuclear" lawsuit and labelled Media Matters as bullies. X's CEO, Linda Yaccarino, stated that no genuine X user saw the contentious ad placements as depicted by Media Matters.
The lawsuit, filed in Texas, aims to counter claims of antisemitism on the platform, the reports said.
