Poolbeg Pharma lands Japanese patent grant for lead asset

Poolbeg Pharma PLC (AIM:POLB, OTCQB:POLBF) has received a patent grant from the Japanese Patent Office for its Immunomodulator II.

This patent covers the pharmaceutical composition of POLB 001, designed for treating severe influenza in hospitalised patients in combination with antiviral compounds. The formal issuance of the granted patent is anticipated soon.

It has also received a fully granted patent for Immunomodulator I from the Japanese Patent Office.

These patents are part of the drug developer's strategy to develop a strong intellectual property portfolio, focusing on the treatment of severe influenza and hypercytokinemia, an over-active immune response.

Poolbeg holds a worldwide licence for POLB 001 for all human uses and is actively seeking broader patent protection for its treatments, including potential applications in cancer immunotherapies.

"The grant received from the Japanese Patent Office highlights the progress we are making in developing our patent portfolio," said chief executive Jeremy Skillington.

"By strategically growing this exciting molecule's intellectual property portfolio, we aim to enhance its overall value for our partners. POLB 001 stands poised to make a substantial impact on global health and has tremendous potential to address unmet medical needs worldwide across multiple disease areas."
