GM Cruise co-founder steps down a day after CEO exit amid safety probe

Cruise co-founder and chief product officer Daniel Kan has resigned a day after CEO Kyle Vogt stepped down from his position leading General Motors Company (NYSE:GM)'s robotaxi subsidiary.

A spokesperson for Cruise told Reuters that Kan announced he was resigning in a Slack message. Neither the company nor Kan provided any additional detail to the publication.

In a post on the social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, outgoing CEO Vogt wrote: “Cruise is still just getting started, and I believe it has a great future ahead. The folks at Cruise are brilliant, driven, and resilient. They’re executing on a solid, multi-year roadmap and an exciting product vision. I’m thrilled to see what Cruise has in store next!”

He said he now plans to “spend time with my family and explore some new ideas.”

Today I resigned from my position as CEO of Cruise. (1/5)

The departures of Kan and Vogt come as Cruise faces a safety review of its United States fleet of vehicles.

The California Department of Motor Vehicles suspended Cruise’s permits for autonomous vehicle deployment following an accident in San Fransisco on October 2 which involved one of its self-driving taxis dragging a pedestrian approximately 20 feet resulting in severe injuries.

GM shares closed up 1.8% at US$28.52 on Monday.
