Spotify will use Google Cloud AI models to make tailored podcast and audiobook recommendations

Spotify Technology SA (NYSE:SPOT) plans to use large language models (LLM) in partnership with Google Cloud to identify users’ listening habits and make personalized podcast and audiobook recommendations, the company said Thursday.

The Swedish music streaming company already uses AI in its music recommendation algorithms. Now, it plans to replicate that strategy for non-music content on its platform.

The company also plans to use AI to identify potentially harmful content and protect user safety.

Google Cloud operates multiple LLMs, including PaLM 2, Codey, Imagen and Chirp, that have been trained on text, code, images, as well as audio and video.

"The evolution of our technology has been matched by Google Cloud's commitment to building the best possible platform for our products to run on and driving further innovation with the emerging capabilities of generative AI," Gustav Söderström, Spotify's chief product and technology officer, said in a statement.
