Warren Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway a net seller in latest quarter

GM, J&J, and P&G all got the chop

Warren Buffett’s investment vehicle Berkshire Hathaway has trimmed its stakes in consumer staples and online giant Amazon.com, its latest quarterly report revealed.

Johnson & Johnson (NYSE:JNJ) and Procter & Gamble (NYSE:PG) were both sold completely along with its holding in General Motors, while the stake in Amazon was cut.

In June, Berkshire’s holdings in GM, J&J, and P&G were worth US$848 million, US$54 million and US$48 million respectively.

Other changes included the sales of part of its big holding in Chevron, with sales in total worth US$7 billion against purchases of US$1.7 billion.

Reflecting the sales, cash held by Berkshire Hathaway rose to a record US$157.2 billion.

New investments included the Atlanta Braves Holdings.

Tuesday's filing detailed investments that comprised most of Omaha, Nebraska-based Berkshire's equity portfolio, which totalled US$318.6 billion as of 30 September.

The investment group also asked for the status of one of its large holdings not to be disclosed to avoid other investors following its lead.

Shares in Berkshire Hathaway rose 0.5% to US$539,349.
