Airbnb Inc (NASDAQ:ABNB) has acquired the artificial intelligence startup Gameplanner.AI in a deal worth nearly $200 million, according to reports.
The company has been operating in what’s known as stealth mode since it was founded in 2020, which startups sometimes do to protect their intellectual property.
For Airbnb, the Gameplanner.AI represents an opportunity to accelerate the company’s artificial intelligence ambitions.
Airbnb CEO Brian Chesky previously said that the generative AI can act as a sort of “travel consigliere” and offer personalized travel experiences to users.
Gameplanner.AI was cofounded by Adam Cheyer, who previously helped found Siri before it was acquired by Apple. He went on to found Viv Labs, which worked toward the development of rival Samsung’s voice assistant.
Airbnb shares gained 6.3% Tuesday to $126.68.
